I am trying to build a better self, to move from survival mode to something more fulfilling. And resist turning this into a kitty blog.

Busy and Blustery (Sunday Snippets)

My how the week has flown! I am sad to have neglected this poor blog, but it was just one of those weeks when I couldn't quite bring everything together. It has been a busy week, and the weekend was busy too, but it was busy with fun as well as chores. We had a nice stormy Saturday--the rain arrived Friday night as Matt and I were walking home from dinner.

Sunday Snippets 13 November

This weekend we enjoyed wrapping up San Diego Beer Week with a beer pairing dinner on Friday and a choose-by-aroma lunch on Sunday. In between we ran errands, baked a breakfast apple crisp for the upcoming week, prepared chicken stock, started our holiday preparations, and split a hand-rolled cigar and scotch on Saturday night. The perfect balance of restful and productive.

By now I hope you're playing along with Sunday Snippets, and I hope you're prepared to have a fantastic week!

Art & Entertaining (Sunday Snippets)

Sunday Snippets

We had a cold, rainy storm (by San Diego standards) on Friday night, but we were safe inside with our friends, eating cabbage and cauliflower manicotti (adapted from this recipe) and drinking wine and playing with Hamilton. Lucky us!

Saturday was clear and cool. A perfect day for farmers market, a little painting, and then a walk to Tiger! Tiger! for a sour beer tap takeover for San Diego Beer Week

This morning has been lazy. We set the clocks back, so it feels luxuriously late in the morning, but the clocks say otherwise! See other Sunday Snippets posts here

Retro Weekend - Sunday Snippets (blogtoberfest day 30)

I love using my cell phone to capture my weekend adventures. I particularly like using all the different "retro" or "vintage" camera apps available right now. But while I love making my current pictures look vintage, I noticed that many of my pictures taken this weekend for the final Sunday Snippets for Blogtoberfest 2011 were of truly vintage things. Even without the fancy filters.

Retro Weekend

On Friday, Matt and I watched Amanda Palmer at the beautifully restored Birch North Park Theater (the first two pictures above). And then today we went to one of our favorite coffee shops--Cafe Bassam (the rest of the pictures, except the last)--which is full of innumerable objects of interest and history, and wandered around some of the beautiful historical neighborhoods in San Diego. Bassam's has so many antique and fun pieces in their cafe. Not pictured: the many oil paintings, racks of rifles and muskets, and even more! So lovely and fun. I feel so blessed to have so much charming history in the objects and architecture around me.

What a lovely month it has been. Thank you for taking a peek at it here and there.

Well, I missed a day. Saturday didn't happen, but I'm okay with it. It was a lovely day. As for the to-do list... Well, it could have been worse. Here's how it shook out:

1. Organize the 7 Levels of Hell Pantry. Identify any organizational items needed to keep it in good shape.

2. Shop for eggs, veggies, at the Mercato.

3. Book Swap! Book swap is fun! It's good for getting rid of books and getting new books to read without spending money! Fun!

4. Clean the Kitchen

5. Vacuum.

6. Clean out office/creative area in preparation for Get Your Paint On, which is starting Monday!

7. Grocery list

8. Grocery shopping

9. Paint the coffee table

10. Brew some beer

So I guess I've got quite a bit to do this week. At least I got my number one priority done. Cheers!

Sunday Snippets (blogtoberfest day 9)

I thought I'd join Tinniegirl on Sunday Snippets this week. Maybe I'll make it a habit. We'll see.
