Postal Surprise

I haven't been posting much lately, partly because I've been struggling to edit photos of a certain event, and partly because of The Sad. Ugh. I have got to shake off this malaise! It certainly isn't based on any event. Quite the contrary, this week has been punctuated with a number of little delights. One of them was a surprise in the mail from my friend Stuph. If you've never read her blog, you should check it out--she's crafy and fashionable and awesome.

"First Class" indeed!

Aren't they darling? Stuph and I met this year, though we have several friends and acquaintances in common. So I was surprised when she asked me for my address to send me something she'd made, apparently inspired by one of my pins. Some people are just better than others, I guess, and she's one of those superior humans.

I love matryoshkas. They remind me of my mother, because they remind her of her own childhood. We didn't have one in our house growing up, but I remember loving to open them all and line them up and play with the tiny bean of a lady in the very center when we visited her Russian relatives in Southern California. When I was a teenager my mother or her sister (or both?) picked up a couple at a Russian festival and I have had one ever since. I'm looking at it right now, actually.

Matryoshkas--or at least their shape and look--have made quite a resurgence lately, to varying degrees of aesthetic success. These ornaments may be the cutest riffs on the matryoshka I've seen.

It's lucky we put up our Christmas tree this week! Heh--don't get mad at me! I will explain, but I won't talk more about it until after Thanksgiving. Probably. But I didn't want to wait to post about this fantastic gift. So cute! Also: again with the thoughtful. I have really got to up my game! Or develop a thoughtful game at all. Sigh. But on the up side, I am blessed with thoughtful people in my life to set good examples. I will watch them closely and try to immitate.
